Tepekule (Old Smyrna)
This is the place at where İzmir was initially settled, located at the northeast parts of the İzmir Bay. The remains of King Tantalus' tomb can be seen here. The excavations at Tepekule are in process, under the sponsorship of Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Since 3,000 BC onwards, this place has always been inhabited by a variety of conquerors. There are many findings from Troy - Yutan and Hittite civilizations. The tomb of Tantalus and Megaron style houses belonging to 7th century BC are among important archeological remains.
Downtown Karşıyaka
Filled with remains of old manors and symbolic modern apartments, Karşıyaka is just as its name says, located on the other coast of İzmir. Karşıyaka formally known as "Cordelio" stil helps us remember the past through the remains of the old manors. Starting at the pier the Karşıyaka Bazaar presents clothing stores, jewelers and mainly cafes, it is filled with people coming and going throughout the day. As you go down the coastal street you will first reach Bostanlı, and then the prestigious neighbourhood of Mavişehir located in Karşıyaka. Mavişehir and its surroundings offer many shopping centers and hyper-markets.
The Yamanlar Peak at the skirts of which Karşıyaka leans lazily, is the rendezvous place for those who wish to experience different excitement inside the nature, and contains a crater lake at the top. The Latife Hanım Manor - Memorial House, in which the founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed when he visitedİzmir and later home for his mother Zübeyde Hanım is restorated to its original. This 150 years old Manor, is open all week except monday for the visitors, where they can see the rooms inclusive the wax sculpturesof Atatürk, Zübeyde Hanım and Latife Hanım.
You Must In Karşıyaka formally known as "Cordelio", you have the chance to visit the 104 year old St. Helen Church. The 1729th Street in which the Karşıyaka's first Chatolic Church reisdes is called "Church street" by the residents of Karşıyaka. The passers by cannot help but stop to view the beauty of the fruit trees in the garden, or the exterior of the building which subtly hints its age. Built around 1904, the inside of St. Helen Church reflects all possible colors of life.
Natural Life; KUŞ CENNETİ
İzmir Kuş Cenneti (bird paradise) covers an area of 8,000 hectares. There are approximately 200 bird species in this area, with an average yearly traffic of 50,000 birds. Surveys indicate that 63 domestic, 54 summer immigrant, 43 winter immigrant, and 30 transit species pull for a stop here.
Red Winged Flamingos, Blackbirds, Dalmatian Pelicans, Ruddy Shelducks, Crakes, Magpies, Swallows, Coots, Plovers, Sand Martins, Great White Egrets, Black Storks, Grey Herons, Great Crested Grebes, Starlings, Kingfishers are just some of the birds we see.
Declared as a natural and archeo-logical SIT area, Kuş Cenneti contains a visitor center building, bird watch towers, stationary binoculars and bicycles for visitors.
İzmir Natural Life Park
İzmir Natural Life Park which is established on an area of 425.000 square metres at Sasalı, Çiğli district, is one of the biggest natural life parks of Europe. You can find there the opportunity to see more than 500 animals of 120 different species. You will find besides 3000 trees and 250 plant types at the park.
