The Aegean Free Zone is located in the Gaziemir district of Izmir and encompasses an area of 2.2 million m2. The Zone is at a distance of 4 km to Adnan Menderes Airport, 12 km to Port of Izmir and only 1 km to highway networks.

Today, all infrastructure works have been completed in an area of 1.500.00 m2 where a total of 240 companies, 71 of which are foreign, are operational. Generating a total trade volume of $ 2.7 billion for the year 2009, the Zone has a cumulative trade volume of $ 36 billion since the beginning of its inauguration. Employment in the Aegean Free Zone has reached 15.000 people.

The Aegean Free Zone holds 1/3 of the total employment and investment generated in all 20 free zones in Turkey.

Aviation, avionics, aerospace, medical devices and pharmaceutical, electronics, automotive supply industry, machinery production and assembly, sensitive measuring equipment, metal joints and kitchen cabinet production, textile and food processing and packaging are among the prominent sectors in the production-based Aegean Free Zone. Most common commercial products are textile products, apparels, heavy construction equipment and durable consumer goods.

All infrastructure and necessary superstructure investments, energy, water, telecommunication, natural gas, loading, unloading, haulage, portage and 24-hour support services as well as fire station, meals and all municipal services are provided by ESBAS.

Services as the loading-uploading, transportation, rental of equipment&personnel, inventory control services are provided by ESBAŞ for companies during the foreign trade.

Region is located 26 km away to Aliağa Port, 40 km to Izmir Port, 11 km from the Çanakkale highway networks and 55 km to Adnan Menderes Airport.
Menemen Free Zone  uses all kinds of world-class advanced methods for leather processing and leather products are applied in the manufacture of rawhide leather production.

Leather Industry Instutions have been around the Izmir and Yeşildere for many years, whereas IDESBAŞ has predicted to continue its activities in more convenient region due to the environmental pollution, new environmental conditions and expropriation activities. Therefore, Leather Manufacturers with limited ability partnerships that was concentrated on the Yeşildere District of Izmir, established the Izmir Leather Industry Cooperative Buildings and operated within the framework of a new settlement in 1984 while aiming to increase their contributions to the national economy.

In accordance with the decision of Board of Advisors which was composed by authority of governership, a land was purchased that is 3.5 km away to the Menemen-Maltepe Village. With the settlement plan of the purchased land; joint treatment plant projects of the factories, drinking water, sewerage, roads, energy distribution projects were prepared.

The infrastructure constructions were completed in the date of 18.12.1988, the construction pf electricity networks were tendered in 1990 and was completed in 31.12.1991. The construction of wastewater treatment plant was initiated in 01.12.1991 and was completed in 26.10.1993. After being completed, the plant was presented in service by inauguration of Süleyman Demirel. While there are 189 parcels in the region, 247 firms are registered as licensed. 3222 people are employed in 100 active companies at year end 2004. Sales capacity of the region in 1997 was $ 500 million in 2004 and trade volume was $ 309,160,857.27 after being free zones.

IDEBAŞ operates in the leather markets of EU Countries, Russia, and Middle Eastern Countries and also has the only "leather" purification system in Turkey while being the industry center in retrieval and processing of raw leather.

Menemen Leather Free Zone provides the accurate service in leather processing and manufacturing; moreover, sub-plots ready construction and ready to use factory buildings are offered as services for firms especially in the leather industry and heavy industry.

Any company with investment-production or commercial purposes must obtain licenses from DTM and the General Directorate of Free Zones to operate in Menemen Leather Free Zone.
